The Rural Finance Project II (RFP II), funded by the World Bank (WB) and run by the Vietnamese Government and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) which was in charge of management and re-lending, was put into operation on April 14, 2003. With a credit of 235 million USD, the Project has contributed greatly to the economic development as well as improvement of the living conditions of rural people. |

| Sea and Islands of Kien Giang Province

Situated in the southernmost area of Vietnam, Kien Giang Province has the greatest potential for sea economic development in the Cuu Long River delta. It has a sea area of 63,000km2 (10 times as large as its land area), with 145 islands, of which 43 islands are inhabited by people. Phu Quoc is the biggest island which has been approved by the Government to be built into an eco-tourist and resort centre of international stature. In the future Ha Tien Town will become a cultural and tourist city. |

| Thang Long JOC Conquers the Ocean

According to oil and gas geologists, the Cuu Long low sea-bed area covering 60,000km2 in the southern continental shelf of Vietnam has a forecasted oil reserve of 700-800 million cubic metres. In addition to seven oil fields under exploitation, including the Bach Ho, Rong, Hong Ngoc, Rang Dong, Su Tu Den, Su Tu Vang and Ca Ngu Vang, there are 16 operating oil and gas projects and newly-discovered fields, making this area a main exploration and exploitation area of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVienam) and its affiliates, including the Thang Long Joint Operating Company (Thang Long JOC). |

| Golden Cashew Nuts

Harvesting cashew nuts in Binh Phuoc Province has turned out to be a very prosperous venture for many farmers, so much that the tree is affectionately known as “a friend”. In 2008, Vietnam became the largest cashew exporter to the US market in particular and the world in general. In 2009 Vietnam’s export turnover from cashews reached approximately one billion USD.
