The 25th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 25), held in Laos, has marked a milestone in the SEA Games’ 50-year-old history. Since the first SEA Games was held in 1959 when Vietnam was one of its founders, Vietnam has continued to confirm its role among the top members. SEA Games 25 in particular became an unforgettable time for the Vietnamese athletes due to their contributions to the national sports sector, with 83 gold, 75 silver and 57 bronze medals, ranking second in the medal tally at these Games. |

| Great Success of Vietnam’s Sport

In November, Vietnam played host to the 3rd Asian Indoor Games (AIG 3), the last Asian Games to be held. The Games highlighted many well-known sporting events along with many traditional sports that are unique to Asian countries. In the future the Asian Indoor Games will be replaced by a new sporting festival entitled: Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts. |

| Shuttlecock Kicking: A Triumphal Return

Shuttlecock kicking is a popular folk sport that dates back to 200 BC. In recent years it has developed widely in Vietnam and some other countries in the world. To further promote the development of the sport, the International Shuttlecock Federation was found in 1999 in Hanoi with the participation of eight delegations. Since then the Vietnamese Shuttlecock Team have actively participated in international competitions and obtained great achievements. |

During the last days of April, Vietnam’s aerobic gymnastics squad won both gold and silver medals at the Aerobic Gymnastics Suzuki World Cup held in Tokyo Japan, thrilling all aerobics enthusiasts. Vietnam’s duo - Ba Dong and Thu Ha impressed the fans when they won the top prize in the mixed double event at the tournament. It was the highest achievement of Vietnam’s aerobic gymnastics in the international arena and demonstrated the improvement that is occurring with Vietnamese athletes. |
