| On March 25, 2010, at the
Government Headquarter in Hanoi, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received
delegates who participated in the 7th ASEAN Chief of Defense
Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM-7) held in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister
highly evaluated results of ACDFIM-7, describing them as active
contributions to the building of an ASEAN Community in 2015 with three
pillars, i.e. political security, economy and
socio-culture.
The Vietnamese government
leader also emphasized that on the way towards building an ASEAN
Community, the ASEAN members are facing non-traditional security
challenges such as terrorist threats, pirates, climate change and
epidemics. Those challenges can't be solved with efforts made by one
country; instead it requires close cooperation and coordination among
countries in the region and all over the world. Results obtained at
ACDFIM-7 are foundations to boost cooperation among ASEAN armed forces in
dealing with the non-traditional challenges.
On behalf of ASEAN military
leaders Major General Haji Aminuddin Ihsan, Commander of the Royal Armed
Forces of Brunei, the host country for the ACDFIM-8, said that results of
ACDFIM-7 would be solid foundations for strong development in defense
cooperation among ASEAN members in the coming
time./.
